The Exerstalker

Kenny and Nutmeg started making a fuss at 5:45 this morning because they were hungry. I couldn't sleep through it so I took my pillow and blanket and camped out on the floor in the nursery. Peter woke me up at 8:30 and Carina didn't wake up till 9! We always wake her at 7 to feed her so this was uncharted territory. Her schedule is off today but Peter and I are well-rested and for the most part Carina is having a good day too.

Yesterday I found two nice looking exersaucers on Craigslist for only $10 each. I e-mailed the seller in the morning but never heard anything back. It drove me crazy all day. Peter started calling me "The Exerstalker." Pretty appropriate for Halloween, no? So I finally heard back from the seller this morning (24 hours later) and she said there was a lot of interest and the first people to call her and come and pick them up could have them. And then she failed to give me her number. So I e-mailed her back and asked where she was and if we could stop by at 1. No response. So we headed to our favorite consignment shop to look for a winter coat and what else did we find? An exersaucer. Not nearly the deal we found on Craigslist but it is very nice. Pics to follow as soon as we get it all washed and sanitized.

Not much else going on. It's rainy and gross outside. We'll probably just do laundry and eat tuna melts later. Life is good.

Making the Cut

Before and after. I asked Peter to go short (inspired by Gregory House). Notice that in the 90 minutes it took Peter to go out and get his hair cut, Kenny never moved from the window. Now the only problem is that I can't get him to stop saying "It's not Lupus."

Happy Halloween!

We don't tend to get many trick-or-treaters so we spent Thursday night with friends. We ate pizza and enjoyed passing out candy since they actually have kids in their neighborhood. Carina was a kitty cat. We had a lot of fun and hope to make it a yearly tradition!

The Sunday Paper

Because I'm sitting at the computer desk looking at the window at just that. Our Sunday paper. You can bet that once I'm done here I will be coupon clipping! It's the planner in me - the control freak - that just LOVES a good deal. And saving lots and lots of money. Exibit A: our trip to Babies R Us last weekend. I believe I used 6 coupons and saved nearly $20. Sweet deal indeed.

Not much going on here at the moment. Peter and Carina are having a little conversation on the couch - she just woke up from her nap. Kenny is watching out the window, Nutmeg is asleep on our bed. We never cease to resent her for waking us up at 6:30 only to take over our bed for the rest of the day once she has had her breakfast. Not fair at all.

Last weekend we met up with a variety of friends who were in town for homecoming. We had lunch with some of my roommates and friends from my semester in Athens, Greece. It's hard to believe that we are all married or engaged now and starting to procreate. It was even crazier meeting up with Peter's friends for icecream in the evening and watching as our 3 children sized each other up. What?! All 3 of us couples are parents now? Wicked.

Unbelievable but so much fun! I've told Peter at every big milestone that I have yet to feel like an adult. Graduating college didn't do it for me. Neither did getting married. First real job? Nope. Buying a house? Not exactly. I was absolutely positive that once I became a mother, I couldn't deny it anymore. I must feel like an adult now. But... not really. I don't know if it's that I've always been the youngest in any group I'm in (starting in elementary school because I have a late summer birthday). Youngest of my college roommates, youngest in any job I've ever had, youngest in our small group... but that's a great thing! I'm realizing now that there is nothing wrong with feeling young (especially since I still am). I'll be the cool, fun mom. Or at least young because I've never been able to claim coolness.

I've come to the conclusion that if paying the car insurance bill, clipping coupons, and scheduling vaccinations for the entire family doesn't make me feel like an adult, I'm destined to be young at heart forever.

Solid Foods... Here We Come!

The past week is yet another blur in a series of blurs. After writing in the last blog about how great Carina did and bragging that she may not even need Tylenol... she had a mini meltdown. Nothing too dramatic but we could tell she was not her normal smiley self and she didn't even want to eat at her normal time. So Tylenol, a nap and a delayed feeding made everything better again.

Thursday I went for coffee with the neighbor while Peter babysat. Our neighbors are our age and just an all around wonderful couple. They are in the process of selling their house and moving and we could not be more sad to see them go. We petsit for each other, we exchange baked goods, they play with Carina and we play their Wii. It has been a real match made in heaven. Sigh... we are going to miss them so much! We're just hoping our next neighbors aren't jerks.

Over the weekend Carina tried her first taste of cereal! She didn't know quite what to make of it but she didn't seem to mind much. Still working on the "what do I do with this now that it's in my mouth?" and most of it ended up on the bib. Overall it was fun but I don't think it'll become a regular thing quite yet.

Monday Peter and I stayed home and it was so nice to have a long weekend together as a family. Tuesday I had to go back to work but Peter had another day off. His first full day at home with Carina! They both had a great day - not surprisingly. I missed them both like crazy but I knew Carina would love having Daddy to herself for a whole day.

Well, I'd better sneak in a quick lunch while the munchkin is still asleep.

4 Months Old

We just returned from Carina's 4 month check-up and she's currently sleeping it off. Everything went just as smoothly as possible! She is now 22 inches long (too tiny to be on the height chart yet!) and 13 pounds 12 ounces (50th percentile). She has consistently been gaining 2 pounds and 1 inch each month. We are so proud of her!

The Doc said she looks wonderful. He said we could start solids any time but because she's doing so well on breast milk there's no reason not to wait another month or two. He advised us both to get flu shots since Carina is too young to get one herself. She got a few vaccines today but as soon as the nurse was done and I picked her up, she was fine! What a little trooper. If she's happy when she wakes up to eat I don't think we'll even give her any Tylenol. We don't go back to the pedi again till she is 6 months and I hope that appt goes as well as this one.

Peter took the day off for the appt and I'm so glad he did. Even if Carina handled everything like a champ, I like having him around! It's trash day... and crazy windy. Not a good combination. I'm watching the trash and recycling go flying around outside our window. All over our front yard. The beer cans and water bottles out there aren't ours, haha. We're going to try to watch for the recycling truck and just run our recycles out then. That way our trash doesn't end up in the neighbor's yard.

I have to say a special thank you to my Aunt Vicki. Not only for reading the blog regularly, which I appreciate VERY much, but for jumping to assumptions on the "What a Difference a Year Makes" post. No, we are not expecting but thank you for making my day, haha. Hilarious! I love you.
